Roe deer stand on four thin legs and wear a coat of brown fur.

Deer spend their mornings and evenings browsing for food. As herbivores, they eat green plants, berries and nuts. Roe deer prefer grass that is high in moisture. Deer live in small groups-generally just a mother and her fawns. Males, called bucks, grow antlers annually and live in small groups of three or four. Like cattle, deer are ruminants. This means they have four stomachs and chew on semi-digested food, called cud. This complex process allows deer to eat things like bark that other animals can't. Roe deer are small in stature: at shoulder height, they are about two feet; in terms of body length, about four feet; and in pounds, about fifty. They generally live to be about ten years old.
Fun Facts: Roe deer generally are as heavy as one or two golf bags.
